Bhoomi Youth Leadership Initiative

Creating Spaces

Raising Voices

Shaping the Future
The Bhoomi Initiative is a partnership between the Foundation for a Just Society (FJS) and Women’s Fund Asia, seeking to address the urgent need for developing and strengthening leadership and organisational skills among young people from South Asia’s most historically oppressed communities, particularly Dalit and Oppressed-Caste women and queer-transgender communities.
Bhoomi Initiative is designed to ensure that youth leaders have a shared space to deepen connections across the intersections of Dalit and Oppressed-Caste experiences and perspectives, feminist, and queer-trans organising and to lay the groundwork for fruitful future collaborations. It will aim to foreground many narratives across other axis of marginalisation of sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, indigeneity, and disability, amongst others.
As a regional feminist fund, WFA is committed to investing in leadership and voices of young people (especially women, girls, trans and intersex persons) experiencing multiple levels of discrimination. In South Asia, caste-based discrimination manifests in all forms of everyday life and the rights of caste oppressed communities are often violated and invisibilized.
However, South Asia is also home to powerful social and people’s movements and in the last few years, young people (especially from marginalised/oppressed communities) have been leading the fight for progressive change, justice and accountability. This partnership between WFA and FJS is critical as it is centred around these very voices, visions, and dreams for a just and equitable future.
As of September 2024, WFA has provided Bhoomi grants, with the total commited amount of
